The summer of 1992 changed my life!
There I was, a 35 year-old pastor from one of those large California Mega-Churches, disguised in baseball cap and sunglasses, sneaking into West Hollywood's Gay Pride Festival. As I ducked past local news cameras and a large contingent
of "concerned" Christians (many from my own church),
I felt a strange sense of excitement… of belonging.
Here were thousand of men and women celebrating
their community... their gay community!

As I visited each booth, I was amazed at the diversity that existed within this family. This large community seemed to offer something for just about everyone. Then it hit me! "What if I'm not alone? I know I'm gay but I still believe in God. What if there are people here who love God and embrace their sexual orientation?"

What If I'm Not Alone?
I began looking for a banner or a flyer, something that might lead me to such a group. I carefully searched each row of exhibits. And then I saw it. A single table standing alone displayed one word: "Evangelicals." As I approached, two handsome young men greeted me (good marketing I thought) and soon told me of a weekly gathering for gay and lesbian Christians.

In that moment everything changed. My belief that God loved me and created everything about me was confirmed. Moreover, my search for a faith community was fulfilled. I soon felt a strong desire to reach other gay and lesbian people who might feel disqualified from God's love. As I left the festival, I removed my hat and sunglasses. God was leading me to a wonderful new family and I wouldn't need to hide anymore.

Over 100 Gay and Lesbian Christians!
I began attending this gathering of gay Christians and soon resigned my church position. Within six months I fell in love with John, a wonderful Christian man, and committed my life to him in January of 1993. Together we discovered Christ Chapel, a church in the Valley where over 100 gay and lesbian Christians meet each Sunday for worship and Bible study. It is here I have served as a church leader and musician ever since.

A lot has changed since 1992 when God found me hiding in West Hollywood. People are coming-out at home, at work and on their campuses with confidence. Yet many gay people still feel disqualified from God's love, especially young "generation Xer's" who grew up caught between a tolerant society and an intolerant church. There continues to be a great hesitancy on the part of many gays and lesbians to believe this simple truth; God loves us. He created everything about us. And He wants a relationship with us.

Music, Comedy, Drama, Videos and Technology!
Now there is a place to celebrate God's special heart for gay and lesbian people... WeHoChurch! Our weekly services and activities are designed especially for those who may not want to attend a typical church. Music, comedy, drama, video and interactive technology are all presented in WeHoChurch's innovative and relevant style. We promise, it's not like any church you've ever attended!

At WeHoChurch we strive to provide men and women the opportunity to focus on their relationship... their friendship with God. This website is just one way by which we communicate regularly with you. I hope you'll check it frequently for updates and additions.

I'm extremely excited and passionate about serving this community, along side Andy Jelmert, as one of the founding pastors. We've grown quite a bit over the past few years, always keeping the spirit of what we started to whatever location we've existed.

No Caps or Sunglasses Allowed
We hope you'll find your path (here with us or elsewhere) and would love to have you visit a service soon or participate in one of our many activities

Remember... come as you are. There's no need to wear a baseball cap and sunglasses!
